In line with his previous work commemorating 140 years of The Championships, Lucas showcases a history of Wimbledon’s charitable work through a blend of 2D animation and stop-motion. Voice-overed by Gordon Reid, two-time wheelchair Grand Slam winner, line-drawn illustrations transition before us to create a heartwarming celebration of Wimbledon’s Ticket Resale Scheme.
Lucas collaborated with Annie Atkins, known for her prop work on Grand Budapest Hotel, who based the ticket model on the originals archived by Wimbledon. Animator Mustashrik combined cell animation and ink brush to design the illustrations that were then printed individually onto the tickets. More than 600 tickets were lined up and motion-controlled against constant millimetric camera movements to create this intricate and beautiful sequence.
