BBC’s ‘Welcome to the City of Love’ in the press
Rounding up coverage for Fx Goby’s Paris Summer Olympics trailer
We’re feeling the love for director Fx Goby’s Summer Olympics trailer for the BBC. The beautiful 2D craftsmanship, expert character design and evocative art direction have not gone unnoticed by international press and trade publications alike.
Forbes commented, “Fx artfully explores the romance between athletes and their sports.” While Creative Bloq weighed in, “the animation makes the City of Light look even more beautiful.” French outlet Telerama noticed the film was “widely shared on social networks, the clip has even won over French Internet users.”
The film has been covered by other heavy-hitters like Huffington Post, The Sun and Marie Claire as well as top-tier trade publications Campaign, The Drum, Creative Boom, Creative Review, Stash, LBB, to name a few.
Fx has also had the opportunity to speak on the craft and process behind the films in this interview with Shots.
Other media mentions include Belfast Telegraph, Stash, L’Aisne, Telerama, MCETV, Collateral, Design Compass, MediaCat, Roast Brief, La Criatura Creativa, and Design Rush.
Beyond the press, the online reception has blown us away, with content on Twitter and Instagram garnering thousands of views, comments and engagement. “Frankly, the BBC gave us the best promotional clip for our Olympics.” comments one Twitter user, “BBC as usual has produced a great trailer for @paris2024” offers another.
In the film, director Fx Goby draws a close parallel between romantic love and the passion athletes feel for their sports. Working closely with BBC Creative, Fx and the Nexus Studios team led an artful and intense choreography of 58 shots and 36 athletes into 60 seconds of breathtaking animated film.
