It’s been a treat following the launch of Triple Bill from Eastend Western. From Cartoon Brew to Motionographer, the industry seems eager to celebrate films that embrace handcrafted techniques, a technique that creates tangible, physical figures rather than just digital assets in an era dominated by AI-driven workflows.

In their Motionographer interview, the newly formed directing duo composed of Nicolas Ménard and Jack Cunningham – both longtime Nexus Studios collaborators – dive into the nitty-gritty of the production. They explore the benefits and challenges of 3D printing and how they found harmony between the film’s storytelling and technical constraints, letting one inform the other.

Meanwhile, their conversation with Cartoon Brew delves into the film’s inspirations and narrative ambitions. Discussing the Cowboy in Blue Goose, they describe his “slightly menacing, slow walk with a stuttering frame rate, like a statue creaking to life,” as the perfect example of how character and technique go hand in hand.

Rounding off the press coverage, the films were also featured in Shots, Stash, and Colossal.
