Heading to the Barbican’s Feel the Sound exhibition? Make sure you don’t miss Your Inner Symphony – an immersive installation transforming your body’s unseen rhythms into a unique visual experience.

Rooted in the idea that sound alters our emotional and physiological state, the installation uses biometric data to create a visual representation of your inner world as it changes throughout the exhibition.

Here’s how to get the most out of your experience.

First Sensing Station

As you enter the exhibition, you’ll immediately notice two Sensing Stations. Simply place your hand on the sensor. It will read your heart rate, heart rate variability, and galvanic skin response, and instantly generate a personalised visualisation on screen.

A QR code will print from the base of the station. This is your key to unlocking the rest of the journey, so be sure to take it with you.

Second Sensing Station

After exploring the Sonic Machine’s Playground and immersing yourself in the choral sounds of UN/BOUND, you’ll approach the second Sensing Station.

Scan your QR code and place your hand on the sensor again. The Station will visualise a new design and compare it to your previous inputs, providing insight into how the exhibition is affecting your mood and feelings.

A new QR code will be printed, don’t forget to take it.

Third Sensing Station

While bouncing to the bass of Joyride, make your way to the third and final sensing station. Scan your second QR code, place your hand on the sensor, and watch your visualisation appear.

This third snapshot captures your physiological response after the full exhibition journey. One last QR code will print, take it with you as you exit.

The Well

Back in the Barbican’s main space, head to The Well: the final physical stop for Your Inner Symphony. Integrated within the architecture of the space itself, a sunken display combines each individual visualisation into one communal display.

To add yours, just scan your final QR code and watch as your personal image feeds into the communal visualisation.

Your Personal Visualisation

But wait, there’s more! Scan your final QR code on your phone to visit a personal landing page. There, you’ll find all three of your visualisations, along with insights into what each visualisation represents.

Feel the Sound was a collaboration between Nexus Studios and Kinda Studios. The exhibition runs from May 22nd to August 31st at the Barbican Centre. Tickets available here
