With SXSW EDU kicking off today and SXSW just around the corner, we thought we’d give you a quick rundown of all the ways Nexus is getting involved in the iconic festival and conference this year. From panels to screenings, animation to immersive, it’s going to be an exciting few weeks and we can’t wait to kick things off. We hope to see you there!


Screening and Q&A: She Creates Change
March 5th, 1:30pm – 2:50pm. Austin Convention Center

As part of the SXSW EDU Film Program, She Creates Change, the Nexus Studios produced anthology series for Room to Read, will screen all episodes. The stories follow six girls as they learn to use life skills such as empathy and perseverance to overcome obstacles and transform their lives. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with series director Martha Adams, Jacqueline Pezzillo, and Abigail Spangler.

Panel: Building an Outdoor AR Gaming Headset: Thoughts & Learnings
March 11th, 4:00pm – 5:00pm. Fairmont Austin 

This Niantic panel will be moderated by Nexus Studios’ Head of Immersive, Pablo Colapinto. Taking a deep dive into the key learnings on the journey to create a world’s first real world AR gaming headset. On stage, Pablo will talk to two of leaders behind Niantic’s Outdoor AR Gaming Headset, Maryam Sabour (Head of Business Development, AR Platform and Headsets) and Ken Wolfe (Director Of Development, AR Headsets And AR Platforms).

Panel: New Dimensions in Gaming, Wellness, and Learning
March 12th, 10:00am – 11:00am. Fairmont Austin 

Curated by Nexus Studios’ Head of Immersive Pablo Colapinto, this panel will dive into audience experiences of the Spatial XR landscape in distinct but overlapping verticals. Joining Pablo on stage will be industry leaders including Kim Adams (Director of Art and Production, Pokémon GO, Niantic), Monica Arés (Founder, Th3 Third Door), and Deborah Casswell (Executive Creative Director, Nexus Studios).
