After 17 years of festivals in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Breda and Berlin, Playgrounds is coming to the heart of European animation and media production – London!

We are very excited to be joining the Playgrounds crew this year at their In Motion festival taking place at the new entertainment district, Outernet London. Spread over two days, the festival will showcase the latest developments in animation & motion design. It features a talented pool of artist talks, including some familiar faces such as Fx Goby, Alex Grigg and Hannah Lau-Walker alongside , real-time demos from a variety of animation vendors including Proceate, numerous artists and a big old party.

Friday 8th September

Dylan White Industry 1-on-1s | 5:00 – 6:00pm 

Nexus Studios very own Dylan White, 2D Lead, will be available for industry 1-on-1’s. He’ll be reviewing portfolios and sharing his own experience and tips & tricks on how to stand out from the crowd. Book a slot and upgrade your porftolio with help from an industry expert.

She Drew That: We Just Want to Have Fun | 5 – 5:45pm 

Join the talented Hannah Lau-Walker, one of the directors from our docu-series, ‘She Creates Change’ and founder of She Drew That. Hannah will host an incredible panel of women featuring, Becky Sloan, Sophie Koko Gate and Laura Jayne Hodkin, to discuss pushing against the pressure of creating work around “women’s issues”. Trends of past years have seen female commercial directors getting stuck predominantly creating tampon ads or charity projects focused on challenging women’s subjects. Thankfully this narrow vision is slowly changing, and with their work, women are now able to also have fun. 

Fx Goby Artist Talk | Here Stage | 6:40 – 7:15pm 

Emmy-nominated and Tribeca X-winning director, Fx Goby brings charm and elevated creative vision to every project he touches. His multidisciplinary expertise is unparalleled with extensive experience in 2D and 3D animation. Come along to catch up with his recent works for Nexus Studios and hear all about his process on the In Motion London stage.

Saturday 9th September

Sketch session with She Drew That | 2 – 3:30 pm 

Join the She Drew That team and host Hannah Lau-Walker for a hands-on session, and sketch an individual frame of an animated loop. After the session your frame will be added to the general loop, come let your mind wander and your hand draw! Everybody is welcome to sketch together.

Alex Grigg Demo | Lower Third | 4 – 4:45pm

Alex Grigg Procreate Demo | Procreate Hands on | 6 – 6:30pm 

Whether you are already a devoted Procreate user or you’re flirting with the idea of becoming one, tuning in to one (or even all!) live demos is a sure thing to help you further develop your skills. Join this session and enjoy the amazingly talented Alex Grigg working right in front of your eyes!
