Built in crafted 3D, the film establishes its horror aesthetic with hand-held cameras before transitioning into cinematic, expertly composed shots. The monochromatic opening quickly gives way to vibrant golds and lush flora as we’re given a glimpse into a world – built entirely in Blender – that suggests something much deeper and more complex.

What begins as something eerie reveals itself as a love story. Coup de Foudre’s command of contrast, character design, lighting and storytelling earns sympathy for creatures that, on first sight, you might expect to fear.
