Crafting a world free of animal mistreatment.

Director Johnny Kelly worked with FlyteVu on Humane World for Animals’ rebrand aimed to highlight their commitment to creating lasting change for animals everywhere.

Careful plotting, expert character design, contiguous background elements, and match cuts helped pack the 30-second spot with narrative, nuance and complexity. Now, set this all to a new rendition of Peter Gabriel’s ‘Solsbury Hill’, recorded by Grammy-nominated star Sia.

The production made a point to work with handmade puppets, cruelty-free materials, and animal-friendly sets. To further reduce materials used, we opted to use a LED Volume Stage – more commonly seen in live-action production – to accommodate the many scene transitions. This came with the added benefit of a more immersive environment for the stop-motion animators.

Behind the Scenes

Character Design

Johnny worked with character designer Michael Kirkham and model makers Sculpt Double to create engaging characters grounded in realism. After extensive animal studies to capture each creature’s essence, Michael passed them to Sculpt Double, who meticulously brought them to life while preserving their spirit. Their commitment to craft meant handcrafting owl feathers from scratch, and painstakingly adding individual synthetic hairs to ermine faces.
