The Shape of Memory
For Max Cooper, Factory Fifteen transformed fan-submitted photographs into fragmented, drifting 3D worlds as a visual exploration of memory’s fragile, shifting nature. Made in support of his Royal Albert Hall show and new album ‘Feeling is Structure’, the film captures how remembrance drifts between clarity and distortion over time.
Using Kling AI, submitted photographs were turned into forward-moving sequences, each unfolding beyond its original frame, the AI’s hallucinations echoing how memory reconstructs itself over time. These sequences passed through a Gaussian splat pipeline, becoming unstable architectures suspended between real and imagined.
In Houdini, environments were animated, lit and rendered, then composited in After Effects to the rhythm of the four-minute track, with Michel Gondry’s Star Guitar lingering as a quiet reference throughout.
