Renowned architecture and design magazine, Dezeen, has long been interested in our architect-turned-directors, Factory Fifteen. Their unique approach to environmental storytelling can be traced back to the ‘The Bug’ and Sundance-winning short ‘Jonah’. They caught up with the trio on how they re-imagined Tokyo into a frenzied, Olympics-obsessed megacity for the BBC Olympics trail commenting on the use of a single-camera technique to create a continuous, ever-moving journey through these scenes, which is what gives the video its fast-paced feel.
“We wanted people to be really excited, even though they can’t be there. That’s why we decided to snapshot vignettes of normal everyday scenes in Tokyo. We want people to be wowed – to question whether that’s what Tokyo is really like – and to have an emotional attachment to the drama.” – Factory Fifteen
