Fx Goby captures the folklore that binds communities together through shared rituals, in a new film for Saul Nash’s AW22 collection. Informed by British Afro-Caribbean and Saul’s own Guyanese heritage, the film is set inside one of the first black-owned barbershops in London, paying tribute to its owner Gee Artery, affectionately known as the “Grandfather of Kensal Rise” a month after his passing.

The cast of dancers create striking tableaus filled with messages of community, all choreographed by Saul. The pace of the film builds in line with the movement, set to a contrasting classical soundtrack and dramatic lighting. The barbershop is filled with a flurry of social interactions, where one small ritual is rooted in cultural identity. RITUALS premiered during London Fashion Week 2022.
