Siqi crafts this appetising stop-motion short film, with hand-crafted details that look good enough to eat. The Coin is a story about identity, family and immigration and built on a Chinese New Year’s Tradition which sees coins being hidden inside dumplings for good luck. 

The female protagonist, based on Siqi’s own personal experiences, loses a coin from a jar of coins she’s collected over the years as she moves to live in new places. By artfully representing both her Chinese heritage and the new places she has lived through different cuisines, the film uncovers the struggles of maintaining a sense of identity whilst immersing oneself in new cultures.
