Celebrate Earth Day with Nexus Studios!
Battling the climate crisis with creativity
Changing hearts and minds is at the centre in our struggle against climate change; storytelling is one of the most powerful weapons we have in that fight.
With that in mind, we wanted to share what we can to help spark your imagination: a few of our favourite sustainability-minded projects, creative and production resources, and some more insight into how we at Nexus Studios are doing our part. We hope this inspires our fellow creatives, producers, artists, technologists and anyone who’s using their creativity to contribute to sustainable causes.
Humane World for Animals – World of Hope
In this stop-motion spot directed by Johnny Kelly he reimagines a world free from animal mistreatment. Handcrafted puppets and cruelty-free materials bring to life this moving story, set to Sia’s rendition of Solsbury Hill.
Green Mountain Energy – Lucy’s World
Lucy’s World, directed by Laurie Rowan, introduces Lucy the firefly, who embodies optimism in a vibrant, green world. The campaign encourages viewers to recognise that even small energy-saving actions can lead to significant environmental impacts.
Creative Resources
How do you weave climate change into your story? Struggling to find imagery to accurately represent the crisis? Or looking to get informed while inspiring action? These creative resources might help you along the way:
– Good Energy Playbook. Digital guide on how to show climate change on-screen including inspiration and information.
– Climate Visuals. Evidence-based and impact focused climate photography resource.
– Climate Fresk. Collaborative workshop turning climate science into a creative, systems-thinking experience for storytellers and teams.
Sheba – Hope Grows

In collaboration with marine biologists, Nexus Studios developed Sheba’s first iOS app, offering an immersive AR experience of coral reef restoration. Users can virtually rebuild the Sheba Hope Reef, witnessing its transformation from barren rubble to a thriving marine ecosystem.
She Creates Change – Dewmini

BackMarket – The Monster
Directed by Johnny Kelly, The Monster is a heartwarming tale of a young girl and her cable-made companion, highlighting the perils of overconsumption. Through a blend of puppetry, stop-motion, and 2D animation, the film promotes conscious consumption and the benefits of refurbished technology.
Production Resources
Minimising your footprint in the middle of a production – where money and time always seem in short supply – can be incredibly challenging. Here are some of the resources our production teams have found useful in addressing these problems.
– AdNet Green Calculator. An industry staple to help track the carbon footprint of each production.
– Creative Offsets. Scheme to help you offset the carbon usage you can’t reduce.
– Olio. Cut out food waste by sharing within your community.
Our Commitment
We are committed to eliminating our studio’s environmental impact and understand this requires rapid and radical change. We are focusing on 3 areas; Travel, Energy & Waste.
- We are offsetting all business travel, once deemed essential, via Creative Offsets.
- We use green couriers & taxi services for all local travel.
- We have switched our studio energy to Good Energy and now use 100% renewable energy.
- We run a paperless office & ensure re-homing of any props and materials used on set has a clear journey to be reused or recycled.
- All our productions follow AdGreen guidelines as closely as possible.
Organisation and engagement in this crisis is needed at every level. Take a moment to share information, inspiration or opportunities for action this Earth Day.
